We specialise in microcement applications, providing a sleek, modern, and highly durable finish for floors, walls, countertops, and furniture. Microcement is the perfect solution for those seeking a seamless, minimalist aesthetic with outstanding resistance and versatility. Whether for residential, commercial, or industrial spaces, our expert craftsmanship ensures a flawless, long-lasting result tailored to your vision.

Seamless, Stylish, and Ultra-Durable Surfaces

Microcement is a thin, yet extremely strong cement-based coating that can be applied over existing surfaces without the need for demolition. With a smooth, continuous finish and no grout lines, it creates a contemporary, high-end look that's perfect for modern homes, offices, retail spaces, and hospitality environments. Available in a range of colors and textures, microcement delivers both style and functionality.

Why microcement works well in Malta

Many Maltese homes have dated or worn tiled floors and bathrooms that the owners want to modernise without the disruption of breaking everything out. Because microcement is applied in thin layers, it can often go straight over the existing surface, keeping floor levels close to where they are and saving days of demolition and debris removal. It also pairs well with underfloor heating, and its continuous finish can run from inside to covered outdoor areas for a consistent look.

Where we use it

  • Apartments and maisonettes: floors, bathrooms and kitchen splashbacks during a renovation.
  • Villas and penthouses: continuous floors through open-plan living areas, feature walls and walk-in showers.
  • Offices: reception areas and meeting spaces with a clean, modern feel.
  • Retail and hospitality: shops, showrooms, bars, restaurants and hotel bathrooms where a distinctive surface makes an impression.

Is microcement right for your project?

Microcement is a strong choice if you want to renovate without demolition, prefer a seamless look, need to keep changes to floor levels to a minimum, or want one continuous finish across floors and walls. It is worth knowing a few things too. Because it is applied by hand, slight variations in tone and texture are part of its character rather than a defect. It needs a sound, stable base, and its protective sealer will need care over time. We are happy to talk this through and show samples so you can decide with confidence.

Our process

  1. Survey and samples: we assess the existing surfaces and agree colour and texture with you.
  2. Preparation: the base is cleaned, repaired and, where needed, levelled; joints and cracks are treated.
  3. Priming and reinforcement: a primer is applied, with mesh reinforcement where the system requires it.
  4. Application: microcement is applied by hand in successive thin coats, sanded between layers.
  5. Sealing: protective sealer coats are applied to resist stains, water and wear.

Why choose Shaw Contractors

Microcement is unforgiving of a poor base, so preparation is everything. We also carry out self levelling to give floors the flat substrate microcement needs, and we install underfloor heating beneath it for warm, seamless floors. Keeping those stages with one contractor makes coordination simpler and protects the final finish.

We work on residential and commercial projects across Malta, from shell to furnished. Clients have highlighted our attention to detail, our commitment to meeting deadlines and the care we take to keep sites clean and tidy, all of which matter for a finish that is so visible.

Why micro cement works

  • Seamless, joint-free surfaces

With no grout lines, microcement gives floors and walls a continuous, minimal look and fewer joints where dirt can collect.

  • No demolition needed

It can often be applied over existing sound surfaces, including tiles, which reduces mess, noise and waste during a renovation.

  • Thin and versatile

A thin build-up means minimal change to floor levels, and the same finish can continue across floors, walls, showers, countertops and furniture.

  • Choice of colours and textures

Finishes range from smooth to textured and from light to dark tones, so the surface can be matched to the rest of the interior.

Micro Cement: frequently asked questions

Can microcement be applied over existing tiles?

Often, yes. The tiles must be firmly bonded and the surface stable. Grout lines are filled and the area is prepared and primed so the microcement bonds well and the old joints do not show through. Loose or hollow tiles must be removed and repaired first. We inspect the surface before confirming whether an overlay is suitable.

Is microcement suitable for bathrooms and showers?

Yes, when it is applied as a complete system and properly sealed. In showers and other wet areas, the correct waterproofing beneath the finish and a suitable sealer on top are essential. A seamless microcement bathroom, with no grout lines, is popular in Maltese apartments and is straightforward to keep clean.

Does microcement crack?

Microcement follows the surface beneath it, so movement or cracking in the base can show through. That is why preparation matters: the substrate must be sound, dry and stable, and existing cracks and joints need treating first. Applied correctly on a suitable base, it gives a durable, long-lasting finish.

How do I clean and maintain a microcement floor?

Regular sweeping and mopping with a mild, pH-neutral cleaner is usually all that is needed. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach and abrasive pads, which can damage the sealer. In busy areas the protective sealer may need refreshing over time, and we can advise on the right maintenance routine for your finish.
